Laurie Menard ~ Unfortunately I won't be able to make the reunion this weekend.  A former teaching colleague has passed away and her funeral is Saturday.

I did want to say thanks to those of you who organized the event.  Having the opportunity to look at some old photos (one in particular of my brother Doug and I and others after winning public speaking contests) and reading people's remembrances has brought back a flood of wonderful memories.

There were days of lent when we would march over to the school for daily mass and those of us girls without hats would have to wear napkins on our heads held on by bobby pins;  the celebrations in the month of May for Mary when we would have a procession around the school singing Immaculate Mary (which remains my favourite hymn to this day).

Of course there were the Christmas plays (each year I seemed to play the Blessed Virgin - was that a message???); the baseball games with Sister Myrna, the laughter with Sister Bolger, the great times with Mr. Kelly and Mr. Brown - especially when he was brave enough to take us to camp for a week when we were in grade 8.  As a teacher myself, I took what I learned as a student from  Sister Carmalita, Sister Myrna and the infinite patience of Mrs. Keyes as models for my own teaching practice.

The teachers and the experiences at Holy Name gave us a solid and happy beginning and it will always be special to me. Despite the fact that our original school no longer stands, the memories are permanent. I wish you all a successful reunion.
