The Feast of the Immaculate Conception
All are invited to the Archdiocese celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at St. Mary’s Cathedral, on Thurs., Dec. 8 at 7:30 pm. At this celebration the Archdiocese will recognize the 150 years of ministry of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul in our community. A social will follow at Ècole Cathédrale.

Advent Lessons and Carols, lead by Newman House on Sat. Dec. 3 at 7:30 pm in St. James Chapel at the Cathedral.  All are welcome to join for a service of readings, hymns and meditations on the Lord’s coming.

Reverence for the Eucharist
Christ Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, is wholly present under the appearance either of bread or of wine in the Eucharist. Furthermore, Christ is wholly present in any fragment of the Consecrated Host or in any drop of the Precious Blood.  At the moment of the Consecration of the Mass, the bread and wine on the altar truly become the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.

Receiving Holy Communion is an act of worship and is treated with the greatest reverence.  The Church requires everyone to fast at least one hour before receiving the Body and Blood of Christ as a sign of reverence and recollection (unless illness prevents one from doing so). When the priest puts the Host in your hand, you say, “Amen.” Take a step or two to the side to make way for the next communicant, and then receive our Lord.  Communion should not be received on the run, as you are walking back to your place. It should be consumed before you leave the Altar.
