Palm Sunday
The people involved in Christ’s death were very like us and the rejection and the crucifixion continue daily.
Jesus is crucified every time a human being is degraded or treated unjustly.
We must never forget that Jesus died on the cross so that we might have new life and
this final week of Lent is a great opportunity to celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord
in a way that will change our lives.

Stations of the Cross on Good Friday will take place at St. Martha School at 11 am.
These Stations are those at which Pope John Paul II presided at in the coliseum in 2004.
The meditations will be read by our youth.

Good Friday Collection in support of the Holy Land
For the year 2011, we remember the first community of Jerusalem who made the first steps in living an evangelical life. It has established the foundation for Christian life from which we still live by today. It is nice to say with the psalmist Jerusalem above all my joys (136,6).
The mission of the commissariat of the Holy Land is to help the Christian communities of the Holy Land and is made possible with the generosity of all the Catholics in Canada. Each year your support sustains apostolic and social works and the upkeep of the Holy Sites that have been entrusted to the Franciscans for centuries. An important challenge that we face is the revival of the Church and the mission of the formation of future priests.
During the Good Friday Service, your parish in communion with the Church turns itself towards Jerusalem. It commemorates Jesus, his sorrowful passion and his love for us and all humanity.
That is also where we share a common solidarity towards the Holy Sites and the faithful who live there. That is why Benedict XVI holds out his hand to you in order to participate in a mission that concerns the whole Church!

Please get your registrations in!
To help us obtain a more accurate account of our parishioners we are asking that all families fill out a new registration form (including those who have been registered here for some time). When you have the form filled out please drop it in the collection basket.

Ready Set Vote - The weeks leading up to the May 2nd Federal Election provide an important opportunity to reflect on moral and social issues, keeping in mind the basic principles of Catholic teaching. To help us in that process, the Justice and Peace Commission of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued the 2011 Federal Election Guide, which explains the issues and encourages Catholics to vote with discernment. The Guide is available online, www.romancatholic.kingston.on.ca or follow the link on our parish website. If you do not have access to a computer, a copy can be obtained from the Diocesan Centre, 390 Palace Rd.

Project Rachel – Private and confidential:
Are you waiting for the Lord to relieve your burden? We can help. Call 416-629-8264. A weekend retreat for women whose hearts have been broken by abortion: May 13-15, 2011.

The Mass of Chrism will be celebrated by Archbishop O’Brien at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Tuesday, April 19th at 7:30 pm. It is a sign of the unity and communion of all priests and deacons with their Bishop. At this Mass, oils for the sacramental life of the Church will be blessed by the Bishop and distributed to each Parish and Institution in our Diocese. A reception will follow at Ecole Cathedrale. All are welcome to attend.

Food for the Soul – The Gift of Pain Thursday, April 21 @ 12:10pm  in Hotel Dieu Hospital – Johnson Auditorium.  Missionaries and medical doctors, Paul & Margaret Brand travelled to India in 1942 with a plan, but God had another plan for them. Come and see their inspirational story, a wonderful prelude to your Easter celebration. Dr. Paul Brand: “If I could give my patients one gift it would be the gift of pain.” This 30 minute video presentation offers a glimpse into the value of pain and how we can come to terms with this vital physical element in our daily sufferings and even appreciate The Gift of Pain.

Seven Last Words – Good Friday, April 22
From noon to 2 pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral, the students of Newman House will be leading the Seven Last Words devotion – readings, meditations and music which prayerfully recall the seven times that Jesus speaks from the Cross. Father Raymond de Souza will preach the meditations on the theme, “Seven Saints for Our Time” in honour of seven of those recently beatified and canonized, including Brother Andre, Cardinal Newman and Pope John Paul II.

Catholic Education Week will be celebrated from May 1 to May 6. This year’s theme, Catholic Education: Celebrating the Spirit comes from St. Paul’s letter to the Romans where he writes, “All who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” (Romans 8:14) St. Luke also refers to the spirit when he writes, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.” (Lk 4:18). During this week, schools will be celebrating the gift of Catholic Education with special prayers and presentations. We ask that the Parish continue to pray for our Catholic schools, that they may be enlivened by God’s Spirit and help in the sacred work of “renewing the face of the earth.” Ps 104:30)

40 Hour Prayer Vigil  -Holy Family Chapel on Lundy’s Lane
April 29th begins with Mass at 5pm and May 1st ends with Mass at 11am.  Could you not watch one hour, and stand on guard for them? Michael Dube to indicate the hour you would like to participate in 613-541-5010 x4223.
