5th Sunday in Lent
The story of Lazarus tells us that in dying to sin we are born to eternal life.
These last days of Lent are about joining ourselves to the passion and death of Christ by deepening our response to his way of life;
prayer penance, acts of charity and personal conversion are the soil in which this life grows.

Ready Set Vote - The weeks leading up to the May 2nd Federal Election provide an important opportunity to reflect on moral and social issues, keeping in mind the basic principles of Catholic teaching. To help us in that process, the Justice and Peace Commission of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued the 2011 Federal Election Guide, which explains the issues and encourages Catholics to vote with discernment. The Guide is available online on the website of the Archdiocese of Kingston, www.romancatholic.kingston.on.ca. If you do not have access to a computer, a copy can be obtained from the Diocesan Centre, 390 Palace Rd.

Food for the Soul – The Gift of Pain Thursday, April 21 @ 12:10pm  in Hotel Dieu Hospital – Johnson Auditorium.  Missionaries and medical doctors, Paul & Margaret Brand travelled to India in 1942 with a plan, but God had another plan for them. Come and see their inspirational story, a wonderful prelude to your Easter celebration. Dr. Paul Brand: “If I could give my patients one gift it would be the gift of pain.” This 30 minute video presentation offers a glimpse into the value of pain and how we can come to terms with this vital physical element in our daily sufferings and even appreciate The Gift of Pain.

Seven Last Words – Good Friday, April 22
From noon to 2 pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral, the students of Newman House will be leading the Seven Last Words devotion – readings, meditations and music which prayerfully recall the seven times that Jesus speaks from the Cross. Father Raymond de Souza will preach the meditations on the theme, “Seven Saints for Our Time” in honour of seven of those recently beatified and canonized, including Brother Andre, Cardinal Newman and Pope John Paul II.

Catholic Education Week will be celebrated from May 1 to May 6. This year’s theme, Catholic Education: Celebrating the Spirit comes from St. Paul’s letter to the Romans where he writes, “All who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” (Romans 8:14) St. Luke also refers to the spirit when he writes, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.” (Lk 4:18). During this week, schools will be celebrating the gift of Catholic Education with special prayers and presentations. We ask that the Parish continue to pray for our Catholic schools, that they may be enlivened by God’s Spirit and help in the sacred work of “renewing the face of the earth.” Ps 104:30)
