31st   SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME
October   31,  2004
 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In today’s readings, God’s mercy is like the “speck that tips the scales” in the face of human sinfulness.  A rich  tax collector, Zacchaeus is attached to his possessions;  yet Jesus  ’tips the scales’ for Zacchaeus by accepting him.  Our willingness to see indicates openness.  Being willing to see - has the power to plunge us into life again, loved and forgiven, alive with new energy, vision and hope.  As the psalm has us pray today, the Lord’s touch is gracious and merciful, and it does tip the scales of life and death.
