19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Gospel today highlights the importance of faith and prayer in the following of Christ.
We have also been invited by Christ to leave our relative security and follow him with conviction and courage through the storms and trials of life.
The Lord is always waiting for us with outstretched arms.

There will only be one bulletin for the month of August.  Check the bulletin board for weekly Mass Times and schedules.

Office Hours: The Office will be closed on Fridays during the month of August.

To help us obtain a more accurate account of our parishioners we are asking that all families fill out a new registration form (including those who have been registered here for some time). When you have the form filled out please drop it in the collection basket.

New Translation of the Mass: Please see the bulletin board for information on workshops for both Musicians and parishioners.

Location of 10:30 Mass in September:
The Parish Council has met to discuss the feasibility of continuing to have the 10:30 Mass at St. Martha School.  We are asking that anyone who would like to provide feedback on this issue do so in writing (signed) so that a final informed decision can be made. If you want the Mass to remain at the school please indicate whether or not you would be willing to help with set up. Please get your written feedback to the office by email, fax or through the collection basket by August 25th. Your opinion counts!

Women’s Fall Retreat: Friday, Sept. 16th to Sunday, Sept. 18th at Glen House Resort, Gananoque. Presenter is Dolores Hall who is an experienced and entertaining facilitator. Theme is “I am with you.” Isaiah 41:10. This Catholic Retreat will be a combination of inspiration and relaxation. Rachel Bouvier is attending World Youth Day in Madrid Spain this month.  Please pray for her!

Ham & Turkey Supper: Wednesday, August 17th  at St. Denis Church in Athens from 4 – 6 pm.  Adults: $12.00 and Children (5-12): $6.00.
Children under 5 are free.

Bereaved Families of Ontario: Mothers” Night –
An evening for mothers to share the loss of a child with other mothers, in confidence;
Tuesday, August 9th  at 6:30 pm, 721 Progress Ave. Unit #1.

New Life Group: A Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced will meet on Tuesday, August 16th  from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the Diocesan Centre on Palace Rd. Topic: Healing Memories and Forgiveness –Video.

Heirloom Tomato Tasting Day: Sat. Aug. 27th from 10 am to 1 pm.  Tasting at 10 followed by a workshop on saving seeds from your favourite tomatoes and garden tours. 1200 Princess, behind the Motherhouse. Donations are always welcome.

Harvest Supper: Please join the Parish of St. Charles Borromeo, Read, Holy Name of Mary, Marysville and St. Vincent de Paul, Deseronto on Sunday, September 11th , at Read Parish Hall from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. We will be serving a delicious hot roast beef dinner with all the trimmings and homemade pies for dessert! Adults: $15, Children (6-12) $8 and children 5 and under free. Musical entertainment and some fun activities for the younger ones. For more info call 613-396-2846.

Humanitarian Aid in the Horn of Africa
Pope Benedict XVI, has called for an “International Mobilization” to help victims of the severe drought in Eastern Africa.
Donations can be made to the Candadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. Development and Peace is eligible to have contributions made by its donors between July 6th and September 16th matched by the Canadian Government.  Donations can be made by telephone (1-888-234-8533) or online at www.devp.org or by sending a cheque made out to (Development and Peace – Horn of Africa Drought) to Development and Peace, 1425 Rene Levesque Boulevard West, 3rd floor, Montreal, Quebec H3G 1T7.
