1st Sunday in Lent
Jesus, in permitting himself to experience temptation,
sets the example we all must follow when we are faced with the human dilemma of choosing between good and evil.
Lent is an opportunity to return to the things of God we have neglected.
Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are the order of the season.

INSTRUCTION IN THE REMOVAL OF OUTER PROTECTION SURFACE OF PARTICULAR VEGTABLES:

There will be the opportunity to have instruction on the kosher method of removing the skins of potatoes, carrots and turnips on Monday 14 March at 1:00 pm at Msgr Raby House.  Please bring your own paring knife and protective clothing.  A special rabbinical instructor will be on hand and all are invited to bring their own meat additive to prepare their meal for the evening.

Confessions
During Lent Father Gillis will hear Confessions every Friday, ½ hour before Stations of the Cross.
There will not be a communal penitential service.

89th Annual Catholic Women’s League Convention:
April 30 & May 1 at the Ambassador Hotel & Convention Centre. Guest Speaker: Colleen Smyth; Justice & Peace Coordinator.  Two ladies from Kingston Jamaica will also speak. Cost of attending convention: $25. Cost of Dinner on Sunday $45.

Knights of Columbus Sponsored Parish Blood Donor Clinic
March 15th from 11am to 6 pm. Signup sheets are available at the back of the Church and School. Please give the gift of life!  Any time you donate please make reference to ID# KNIG009249 so that your donation will be linked to our Knights of Columbus in the Partners for Life Program.

Mission Committee News:  Please note that all money from the votive stand in the Church foyer will now go to the Mission Committee to be distributed to those in need.

New Life Group A Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced will meet on Tuesday, March 15 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the Diocesan Centre. Topic: Let’s Talk: “Solutions” to Daily Struggles. Group facilitated.

Bereaved Families of Ontario: Family Night – Tuesday, March 15 at 7:30 pm. (721 Progress Ave, Unit #1) A support evening open to any adult who has lost a loved one.

Regiopolis –Notre Dame Catholic High School: 
Early semester report cards were issued Friday,
March 11th. Parent teacher interview night will be Wednesday, March 23rd  3 to 6pm and 7 to 9pm.

Rite of Election with Archbishop O’Brien and Elect of our Archdiocese:  All parishioners are invited to celebrate Sunday Vespers and the Rite of Election at St. Mary’s Cathedral on the 1st Sunday of Lent, March 13th at 4 pm. Archbishop O’Brien will preside and formally welcome all those who have been preparing for Baptism this Easter, as well as candidates for Full Communion. Refreshments after.

Billings Ovulation Method of Natural Family Planning
All are invited to a training workshop to be held March 25-27 @the Diocesan Centre in Kingston. The Billings Method is a safe effective way for planning your children and provides information that is vital to couples that may have found difficulty in conceiving. Celebrating Catholic Youth Conference 2011: “Lord make me an instrument of your peace, where there is hatred let me sow love.”  (Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi) to be held at Holy Cross C.S.S. in Kingston on Saturday April 9, 2011 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.  This day is for youth ages 13-19.  The workshops, witness talks, music, drama and a closing liturgy will be focused on this particular age group.  The cost is $10 and a non-perishable food item per person and lunch is provided.  Registration forms are available on the youth link at: www.romancatholic.kingston.on.ca
