29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In an age where we have become accustomed to instant results and are impatient with endless delays,
Christ’s message is to keep on praying because the values we cherish are not instantly available and take time to establish.
Prayer is the oil that keeps the lamp of faith burning brightly,
drawing us closer to God and enabling us to produce good works.

All Souls Day: To help those who wish to remember the faithfully departed in a special way, envelopes will be provided so that you may list your friends and relatives who you want prayed for at the Masses on All Souls Day.  Please place envelopes in collection basket or forward to parish office before the 1 Nov.

The Book of Remembrance is at the entrance of the church. Please add the names of deceased family members and friends who you want prayed for during the month of November.

Snow Birds: The frost will soon be on the pumpkin and the hay in the barn; as well many of our parishioners will be migrating to warmer parts.  This spring we will be preparing a new photo album for the parish and you  may book an appointment before you leave (if you are not going to be back by March 15th)or Fr. Gillis can take a photo if you are not going to be back by the 10 May 2011.  We want all to receive a free album and 8 X10 photo – so please participate!!!

Let’s Make Poverty History Today, we reflect on our Christian call to be persistent in advocating for the elimination of poverty. Let us join with people around the world in calling on our governments and business leaders to develop policies that respond to the cries of the poor among us.

In celebration with the canonization of St. Andre, the Knights of Columbus are conducting a membership opportunity.  Men, the time has come to be a more positive contributor to the parish community. Ladies, wouldn’t it be nice if you and the family could take advantage of all that Knight’s membership offers?
Much more than excellent financial investment and world leading life insurance, the Knights provide opportunities to support the parish, the family, the community, our youth and it will even get him out from underfoot periodically. Don’t miss the opportunity!

World Mission Sunday is on October 24th  Every parish across the world will celebrate World Mission Sunday next week. It is a global sign of the Universal Church and mission. Your prayers and donations will help support churches, hospitals, schools and vocations in countries where the Church is beginning, where it is new. World Mission Sunday is our chance to assist Catholic communities throughout the world become self sufficient and flourish. By sharing the gift of faith we can bring hope and love to those who need it most.

Fertility Education-Natural Family Planning: The Billings Ovulation Method teaches women to recognize the natural occurring symptoms in their bodies that indicate fertility. The method provides an awareness of our bodies and openness to God’s design in marriage. Many couples that thought they were infertile have been successful with this method. On the 3rd Mon. of each month a clinic is held @ St. Paul the Apostle Church on Taylor Kidd Blvd from 7-9 pm. For info call 613-544-8495 or email  Kingston@naturalfamilyplanning.ca.

Hotel Dieu Hospital Coat Drive is now accepting donations of new or gently used winter coats. Most in need are all-weather type coats, such as ski jackets, for men and women who spend days and sometimes nights on the streets. Your donations may be dropped off at the main entrance of the hospital – 166 Brock – into the coat bin just inside the door. The coat room opens on Nov. 1st and runs until Jan. 28th. For more info call 544-3400 ext 2231.

Joke
For several years my husband and I have made a conscientious effort to get our family to eat more healthful foods at meals and for snacks.
The children often express their discontent with this.
One afternoon I returned from grocery shopping and our 17 yr old son started to unpack the bags.
“Oh No!” he exclaimed, pulling out paper towels in a new earth – tone shade.
“Whole wheat paper towels!”
