28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s gospel story reminds us of how often we fail to express thanks to God as the source of all goodness, for favours granted.
The real worth of our love for God flows from our ability to recognize the countless blessings,
great and small, which come our way daily.

All Souls Day: To help those who wish to remember the faithfully departed in a special way, envelopes will be provided so that you may list your friends and relatives who you want prayed for at the Masses on All Souls Day.  Please place envelopes in collection basket or forward to parish office before the 1 Nov.

Snow Birds: The frost will soon be on the pumpkin and the hay in the barn; as well many of our parishioners will be migrating to warmer parts.  This spring we will be preparing a new photo album for the parish and you  may book an appointment before you leave (if you are not going to be back by March 15th)or Fr. Gillis can take a photo if you are not going to be back by the 10 May 2011.  We want all to receive a free album and 8 X10 photo – so please participate!!!

Widows Dinner: This year the widow’s dinner will be on Friday November 12th.  Details to follow.  If you are a widow in our parish and would like to attend please call Christine at the parish office by Nov. 1st.

Communion Brunch
Sponsored by our Mission Committee.  October 24th at 12:15 at Rideau Acres Hall.  This Year our Guest Speaker is Dr. Andrew Simone a co founder of the organization; Canadian Food for Children. In 1985, with the blessing of Mother Theresa, they started CFFC, an organization that runs with volunteers only so that 100 % of what you donate goes to the poor. They now ship over 5 million kilograms of food and necessities per year to children in over 30 countries. Get your tickets early for a great meal and an enlightening presentation! Tickets: $11/ person or $33 / family - available after weekend Masses.
Please note that we pay $10.73 per ticket given out. Family tickets are for Mom, Dad and children under 19 yrs old. Family rates do not cover extended family.

Volunteers needed: to assist with Children’s Liturgy at 9:00 am Mass at the Church. A couple in our parish has graciously agreed to run the program but to do so functionally we need 4 to 6 more volunteers. If you are interested please call Christine at the parish office to inquire about screening procedures.

St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank
At Thanksgiving it is especially important to remember the poor. Thank you to everyone who continues to bring food for St. Vincent De Paul. You can make a monetary donation any time through the year by dropping a cheque in the collection basket made out to Holy Name Parish indicating that it is for St. Vincent de Paul.

Knights of Columbus General Meeting will be held on Wednesday October 13 at 7 pm in St. Joseph’s Room.

In celebration with the canonization of St. Andre, the Knights of Columbus are conducting a membership opportunity.  Men, the time has come to be a more positive contributor to the parish community. Ladies, wouldn’t it be nice if you and the family could take advantage of all that Knight’s membership offers?
Much more than excellent financial investment and world leading life insurance, the Knights provide opportunities to support the parish, the family, the community, our youth and it will even get him out from underfoot periodically. Don’t miss the opportunity! Knights will be available after Masses on October 16th and 17th to answer any questions.

Annual Catholic Women’s League Archdiocesan Retreat: will be held October 16, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 490 Days Road, from 9 am to 3 pm. Cost $8.00. Coffee and muffins am - brown bag lunch. This year’s theme is “We are called to be Ambassadors of Hope” – w/ Father Bill Burke, CCCB National Liturgy Director. For further info contact Marjorie  613-267-5925  or marjoriefacette@sympatico.ca.

New Life Group: A Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced will meet on Tuesday October 12 from  7:30  to 9:30 pm at the Diocesan Centre on Palace Rd.  Topic: “Solutions” to Daily Struggles.

World Mission Sunday is on October 24th  This is a world wide collection for the missionary church that provides emergency aid when disasters strike, cares for refugees in war torn nations, provides rural health clinics and transportation for priests, catechists, religious and lay pastoral workers. It provides financial support for the daily needs of all missionaries. Please pray for the missions and be generous on World Mission Sunday.

Prayer for Thanksgiving.

Father all-powerful, your gifts of love are countless and your goodness infinite.
On Thanksgiving Day we come before you in gratitude for your kindness.
Open our hearts to concern for our fellow men and women so that we may share your gifts in loving service.
We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

For the Kids
Why did the police arrest the turkey?
Because they suspected it of fowl play
Why did they let the turkey join the band?
Because he had the drumsticks.

Happy Thanksgiving!
