3rd  Sunday of Advent
Today’s liturgy is a message of hope and rejoicing.
The dreadful happenings of the world around us can sometimes give us little cause for rejoicing.
Christian joy does not come from an absence of sorrow, pain or trouble
but from an awareness of the presence of Christ within our souls.

Readings for 4th Sunday of Advent:  1st Reading: Micah 5.2-5
                                                               2nd Reading: Hebrews 10.5-10
                                                               Gospel: Luke 1.39-45

As we approach the feast of Christmas we should be seeking to receive the Gift of Christ fully prepared. Spiritually this is best accomplished by receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Confessions at Holy Name will be Monday, December 14th  at 7 pm.
St. John, Gananoque – Sunday, December 13, 3:00 pm
Our Lady of Lourdes, Kingston – Sunday, December 13, at 3:30 pm.
Holy Family, Kingston –Sunday, Dec. 20  -Starting with a prayer service at 3 pm.

Flower Donations for Christmas:  This year we will be accepting donations towards the purchase of flowers for the church during the Christmas Season that begins on the 25 of December.   I would ask that you not bring poinsettias or other flower arrangements but instead make a donation in the name of a loved one.  When the Christmas Bulletin is published it will contain the names of the loved ones who flowers have been placed in memory of, and the names of the donors.  Envelopes will be placed in the pews during the Advent season and you are asked to place them in the collection basket no later than December 20th .  Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Thank You to Everyone who contributed to our Mini Bazaar.  The craft and sewing tables made over $1200.

Thank You to the Parishioners of Holy Name of Jesus. We collected $3660 for the Priests Retirement Fund

Campaign for Life Christmas Cakes: There will be Christmas cakes available after Masses next weekend.-(December 19/20). Priced at either $15 or $22 the proceeds will go to Campaign Life Coalition.

Thank you for praying for our armed forces .  Please continue to pray for those now serving in foreign lands: Carl Turenne & David Hannon.

2010 Envelopes are now available. If you would like envelopes, or if you don’t see your envelopes (they may have been left out at the wrong location) please call Christine at the parish office.

Bereaved Families of Ontario:  Will hold their monthly Family Night on Tuesday, December 15th, starting at 7:30 pm at 721 Progress Ave, Unit #1. There will be a candle lighting ceremony with facilitators Harvey Reed & Karen Vanhone. All adults who have lost a child, parent, sibling or spouse are welcome to attend.  For further info call 613-634-1230 or email bfo@kingston.net.

Bereaved Families of Ontario:  will hold a special evening for fathers who have lost a child on Thursday, December 17th from 7:30 – 9:00 pm.  Our facilitator for the evening is Harvey Reed and the topic is “Father’s Grief and the Holidays”. All fathers who have lost a child through death are welcome to attend.

REgi-WEAR (Eco-friendly, quality, affordable clothing):  A new project that the RHUM committee will be taking on is a consignment shop. Regi students will have the opportunity to purchase discounted uniform items from the Upper Room once a week.  Anyone who has gently used uniform pieces that they would like to sell or donate to our consignment shop is welcome to do so.  Please drop off donations to the Upper Room.  All donations are to be clean and on a hanger.  Make sure all items are in good repair and stain free.  All proceeds will support charities and efforts of the RHUM committee.  For info – Nadia Gundert 545-1902 ext. 3999.

After 22 years of dedicated service, Sister Emily Doherty will retire at the end of December as coordinator of the Office of Liturgy of the Archdiocese of Kingston.  In order to recognize in a particular way Sister Doherty’s invaluable contribution to the liturgical life of the Archdiocese over these many years, a reception will be held at the Diocesan Centre on Thursday, December 17, 2009 from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. This special event is an opportunity for all those with whom Sister has worked over these many years to express their personal appreciation.

Holy Innocents Candlelight Vigil:  will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 7:00 pm in front of Kingston General Hospital. At this time, during the Christmas season we remember the Holy Innocents, the babies who were killed by Herod seeking the Christ Child. We will gather to pray for our “innocents”, the more than 30,000 babies killed at KGH by the sin of abortion. Please join us at 6:45 pm on the hill across from KGH (Stuart St.) for prayers and hymns. Please bring your own candle in a glass jar (flashlight for children). For more information call Campaign Life Coalition at 613-389-4472.
