Today’s gospel encourages us to never lose sight of the importance of service to others.
The attitude of “what’s in it for me” runs deep in all our hearts but we can serve God best by helping one another.

Thank You: from Campaign Life Coalition. Holy Name raised $1,025.80 in the Coins for Life fundraiser.

Remembrance of our Faithfully Departed in Month of November: 
There is a Book of Remembrance placed at the entry where you may write names of loved ones who you wish prayed for on All Souls Day and in the month of November. 
    There will also be an evening for widows of the parish on Friday, November 13th. There will be a Mass followed by supper for those who register (through the sponsorship of the Knights of Columbus).  Those widows wishing to attend please notify the parish office by October 22nd.

Parish Blood Donor Clinic: October 20th from 3 to 7 pm.  Information and a signup sheet will be in the entryways this weekend.  Remember any time you donate give the ID # KNIG009249 to be linked with our Knights of Columbus in the Partners for Life Program.

Bulletin Changes:  We are thinking about changing the format of the bulletin.  If anyone is interested in advertising their business card in the bulletin, please call the parish office for more information.

Communion Breakfast:  Sunday, October 25, noon – at Rideau Acres.  Our guest speaker will be Kathryn Wood of Natural Capitol Resources, and she will speak on wind and solar power.  Tickets are on sale this weekend after every Mass. $10 / person or $30 / family (19 yrs and older considered adult). Last Weekend to get Tickets!

The Catholic Women’s League Annual Diocesan Retreat: Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 am to 3 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.  Theme – Women of Peace and Hope.
Speaker – Father Michael Coutts, S.J. popular homilist on Vision T.V.  Registration and refreshments: $8.00, Brown Bag lunch.  All catholic women are warmly invited to attend.  If you would like to attend please call Karla 613-546-0285.

Thank you for praying for our armed forces.  Please continue to pray for those now serving in foreign lands: Carl Turenne & David Hannon.

Thank you to all who continue to bring food items every weekend for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. They report that our food is not on the shelf very long.  Poor families are truly in need. Thank you for helping them.

Tropical storm Ketsana affected 12 million residents. UN DAY FOR THE ERADICATION OF POVERTY:  This Saturday, October 17, is the UN World Day for the Eradication of Poverty.   November 24 will mark 20 years since the House of Commons made a unanimous resolution to end child poverty in Canada by 2000. Sadly, the rate of family and child poverty remains almost as high as it was in 1989.  Support this campaign to end poverty by writing or emailing Prime Minister Harper to enact a National Poverty Reduction Strategy in collaboration with the provinces. (Prime Minister Stephen Harper, 80 Wellington St. Ottawa ON K1A 0A2 or pm@pm.gc.ca.  Wear a white ribbon on October 16 to October 18 to indicate your support.

International Day of Climate Action: Oct. 24th in front of Parliament in Ottawa.  Free buses will leave Bath & Princess at 9 am.  For more details and to save a spot on the bus call 613-544-4525 ext. 145. Donations welcomed.

New Life Group: a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced will meet Tuesday, October 27 at the Diocesan Centre in Kingston 7:30 to 9:30 pm.  Topic: Financial Concerns.

Bereaved Families of Ontario:  monthly Family Night on Tuesday, October 20th  starting at 7:30 pm at 721 Progress Ave, Unit #1.  Speaker: Gundi Hodge..  “After Loss “is the topic for the evening.  Facilitators are Harvey Reed & Karen Vonhone.  All adults who have lost a child, parent, sibling or spouse are welcome to attend.

The Power of the Eucharist - The Same Yesterday, Today and Forever:   November 13-14.

Kingston Twenties and Thirties Group:
A group of young adults in Kingston is seeking to connect with other young Catholics in their twenties and thirties, both married and single, in order to grow together in the Catholic faith through spiritual, social, educational and service activities.  The first meeting for young adults attending Kingston Parishes is on Friday, October 30, 2009.  Potluck dinner, a guest speaker, and a spiritual exercise such as a group rosary or a Lectio Divinia-style bible study. Holy Cross Catholic High School Arts Department needs your help: They are staging a production of West Side Story, and are looking for donations of party or bridesmaids dresses that would be suitable for this musical which is set in the 1950’s.
