Jesus is not asking us to admire His way of life but to live it fully and not as part time followers.
Discipleship is always costly.
Our following Christ means making the best use of our present situation and placing our lives in His hands.

Remembrance of our Faithfully Departed in Month of November
There is a Book of Remembrance placed at the entry where you may write names of loved ones who you wish prayed for on All Souls Day and in the month of November.

    There will also be an evening for widows of the parish on Friday, November 13th. There will be a Mass followed by supper for those who register (through the sponsorship of the Knights of Columbus).  Those widows wishing to attend please notify the parish office by October 15th.

Parish Blood Donor Clinic: October 20th from 3 to 7 pm.  Information and a signup sheet will be in the entryways this weekend.  Remember any time you donate give the ID # KNIG009249 to be linked with our Knights of Columbus in the Partners for Life Program.

Knights of Columbus General Meeting:  Please note that the general meeting will be on Thursday, October 15th at 7 pm. (The meeting will not be on Wednesday this month)

Thank you:  We raised $1,387.00 for St. Vincent de Paul on our annual drive last weekend.

Bulletin Changes:  We are thinking about changing the format of the bulletin.  If anyone is interested in advertising their business card in the bulletin, please call the parish office for more information.

Communion Breakfast:  Sunday, October 25, noon – at Rideau Acres.  Our guest speaker will be Kathryn Wood of Natural Capitol Resources, and she will speak on wind and solar power.  Tickets are on sale this weekend after every Mass. $10 / person or $30 / family  (19 yrs and older considered adult).

The Catholic Women’s League Annual Diocesan Retreat: Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 am to 3 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.  Theme – Women of Peace and Hope.

Thank you for praying for our armed forces.  Please continue to pray for those now serving in foreign lands: Carl Turenne & David Hannon.

Thank you to all who continue to bring food items every weekend for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. They report that our food is not on the shelf very long.  Poor families are truly in need. Thank you for helping them.

Floods in the Philippines
Tropical storm Ketsana affected 12 million residents. New Life Group: a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced will meet Tuesday, October 13 at the Diocesan Centre in Kingston 7:30 to 9:30 pm.  Topic: Ask it Basket.   All faith denominations welcome.

Bereaved Families of Ontario:  monthly Mother’s Night on Tuesday, October 13 starting at 7:30 pm at 721 Progress Ave, Unit #1.  Facilitators are Rita Bell and Gaetane Harten.  “The bridge to healing “is the topic for the evening.  All mothers who have lost a child through death are welcome to attend and share their feelings and concerns with others who have experienced a similar loss.

Dealing with Difficult Times: Looking for Creative Solutions – A workshop of the Justice & Peace Commission on October 17th from 9 am to 3 pm at St. Paul the Apostle Church on Taylor Kidd Blvd.  Cost $10.00 payable at the door. To register please contact Gorett at the Diocesan Centre 613-548-4461

St. Patrick’s, Railton and St. Mary’s, Odessa Catholic Women’s League: are having a Harvest Tea and Bazaar in the church hall, 3977 Sydenham Rd. on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 10:00 am to 3 pm. Come out for the tea room, baked goods, crafts, decorations and some fun.

Baroque Toberfest at St. Mary’s Parish Centre: October 18, 6:30 pm. a fundraising event for St. Mary’s Cathedral Music Program.  German Baroque music with German Beer and other taste treats give this European festival a unique Kingston flair.  Call 613-546-9868 or 613-634-9312 to reserve your tickets. Kingston Twenties and Thirties Group:
A group of young adults in Kingston is seeking to connect with other young Catholics in their twenties and thirties, both married and single, in order to grow together in the Catholic faith through spiritual, social, educational and service activities.  The group is planning to have its first meeting for young adults attending Kingston Parishes on Friday, October 30, 2009.  This event will include a potluck dinner, a guest speaker, and a spiritual exercise such as a group rosary or a Lectio Divinia-style bible study. A man goes into a pet shop and sees a beautiful parrot with a red string tied to its left leg and a green string tied to its right leg.
“What are those strings for?” he asks the store owner.
“This is a highly trained creature,” the owner explains.
“If you pull the red string, he speaks Spanish and if you pull the green string he speaks French.”
“What happens if you pull both strings at the same time?” the man asks.
