3rd Sunday of Lent
Today’s Gospel leads us to ask ourselves what kinds of things Jesus would change or overturn in us.
What would he cleanse in the temple of our lives –if we let Him.
Each Lent for forty days we are challenged to allow Jesus
to enter our lives to cleanse us of apathy or jealousy or hatred or despair
or whatever does not nurture our relationship with God and others.
As we continue our Lenten journey,
may we open ourselves ever more deeply to the purifying power of
the One who loved us enough to take our sins to the Cross.

Lent We
are asked to take up the challenges of meaningful penance as expressed
in FAST & ABSTINENCE (after 14 yrs). This means not to eat
meat or some other favourite food & the practice of moderation in
all food & drink on all Fridays of the year. FASTING (after
18 & up to 59) can vary from person to person – some a total
fast, taking only bread and water; others adopt a vegetarian diet on a
day of fast; others take only one complete meal. Lent is a time
of repentance – a time for more prayer – a time of
discipline and sacrifice – a time to be generous and caring to
the poor – all for the love of God.

Joke
Taking advantage of a balmy day in New York,
my Brother and three other priests swapped their clerical garb for polos and khakis and time out on the golf course.
After several really horrible shots, their caddy asked, “You guys wouldn’t be priests by any chance?”
“Actually, yes, we are,” one cleric replied. Why?”
“Because,” said the caddy, “I’ve never seen such bad golf and such clean language!”
