On All Souls Day we are faced with the mystery of death and reminded of the promise of eternal life.
On this special day we ask God to have mercy on those who have died
and we pray for an ever deeper and abiding awareness of the steadfast love of God
expressed through the Risen Christ

Volunteers Needed : We need two people to help bring residents to 10:30 Mass at Fairmount Home on the 2nd Friday of every month.  If interested please call the Parish Office 613-546-0418.

Holy Name Parish Christmas Bazaar : is next weekend,  November 8th from 9am to 2 pm at Holy Name School. You can drop off donations to the school on Fri., November 7th between 4 - 7pm.  Please come do some Christmas shopping and have lunch in the Café.  For Info please call the office 613-546-0418.
There are posters at the back of the Church and School. Please take some and hang one at your place of work etc.  to better advertise our bazaar.

ELF LOFT : Every year at our Church Bazaar, the Elf Loft offers children a fun environment to shop for Christmas gifts for their parents and siblings.  We require donations of new gifts in the amount of $10 and under, which can be left in Elf Loft containers at the entrance of the church. For further information please call Sandra at 613-536-7038.

Priests’ Benefit Fund Parish Collection: November 15 & 16, 2008
The Priests’ Benefit Fund collection supports the archdiocesan retirement program which provides elderly and infirm priests with the financial support they have earned after many years of service to us.  The fund currently provides monthly pensions and health benefits for thirty priests at an annual cost of more than $500,000.  We thank you for the generosity you’ve shown in the past and we hope you will generously support this years collection.

Thank you to all who continue to bring food items every weekend for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  They report that our food is not on the shelf very long.  Poor families are truly in need.  Thank you for helping them.
A special thank you to everyone who helped fill the truck with food and clothing last weekend.  It will   help many people in need.

Hotel Dieu Hospital Annual Coat Drive is beginning this week. Gently used winter coats can be dropped off at the main hospital entrance(Brock St).  Volunteer staff is also being recruited at this time.  If interested please contact the Pastoral Care Dept. at 613-544-3400 ext. 2231.

“Beyond the Food Bank” - a social justice workshop on November 8th at Holy Cross School - a workshop which will challenge you to look at poor and hungry people not as issues or problems but as our brothers and sisters.  Together with the highly qualified leaders in the field, we will try to uncover longer term solutions which can serve to restore the human dignity of the poor and hungry in our midst.  Contact Alice Gazely at 613-544-0485 or rgazely@cogeco.ca.

Remembrance Day Service : The Knights of Columbus and the Legion will hold a  Remembrance Day Service at St. Mary’s Cemetery 718 Division Street, Kingston, Sunday November 9 at 2:00 pm.

Bereaved Families of Ontario will hold their monthly Mother’s Night on Tuesday, November 11th, starting at 7:30 pm at 721 Progress Ave. Unit # 1.  Our facilitators are Heather Johnston & Ursula Armstrong and the topic is “Preparing Yourself for the Holidays” All mothers who have lost a child through death are welcome to attend and share their feelings and concerns with others who have experienced a similar loss.

Sessions During the Year of St. Paul
You are invited to celebrate the Life and Mission of St, Paul, as well as to learn from him how to follow Jesus Christ more faithfully today. St. Mary’s Cathedral offers 4 Wednesday evening sessions on St. Paul  7:00 - 8:45 pm at St. Mary’s Parish Centre, 260 Brock. Nov. 12 - The life and Mission of St. Paul with Fr. Shawn Hughes, Nov. 26 & Dec 3 - Movie Night: “Peter and Paul  followed by discussion, Dec. 10 - Holy Hour in honor of St. Paul (at the Cathedral).

Good Thief Church C.W.L. Bazaar Saturday, November 15th, 9 am to 1 pm.  Good Thief Parish Centre, Baiden St. Kingston.   Christmas gifts, crafts, baked goods, candy, preserves, vintage and current jewelry, old and new  items and a tea table.

Youth Ministry Course on Fostering the Faith Growth of Youth through Pastoral Care : will be offered on Fri. And Sat. Nov. 14th & 15th from 9 am to 5 pm at the Diocesan Centre. Hotel Dieu Hospital - Volunteers Needed
Many volunteer opportunities available such as the Lottery Booth, the Snack Cart, the Brockview Café, Urgent Care Centre, Day Surgery and the Chidren’s Outpatient Centre to name a few.  The average volunteer commitment is just 3-4 hours during a weekday.  If you are interested in volunteering please call 544-3400 ext. 2311, pick up an application at the hospital or visit our website at www.hoteldieu.com

“Come and See Weekend : at St. Peter’s Seminary, London, ON - November 21 -23.  The weekend begins on Friday at 7:30 pm and concludes with a brunch on Sunday (around 1:30 pm) Participants must be at least 17 yrs old.  To register email stpatricks@sympatico.ca or fax 613-354-2558 with name, date of birth, address, phone #, any special needs and # of guests.  Registration fee is $20 payable to St. Peter’s Seminary.

JOKE
One day we saw a news report on TV about the owner of a craft shop and one of her employees
who had apprehended a would be thief and held him captive until police arrived to arrest him.
As we listened to the story, my grandson commented dryly,
“What did they do? Hold him at needlepoint?”
