Confirmation 2008 - ENROLMENT SUNDAY
In preparation for this years Confirmation Ceremony, the Enrolment Ceremony, which gives the candidates the opportunity to make their statement of commitment prior to Confirmation will take place at our regular Sunday liturgy 26th of October, 2008.  It is mandatory for the prospective Confirmation candidates to attend.

Knights of Columbus:     There will be an information session for men of the parish who are interested in learning more about the Knights of Columbus. It will take place on Tuesday, October 21 at 7 pm in St. Joseph’s Room.

Please Pick up your meat pies and apple pies after Mass.

October is Mission Month ; We will be having a special drive on October 25th & 26th for St. Vincent de Paul. This year they need men’s clothing and men’s winter outerwear (No women’s clothing please). They also need children’s boots and snowsuits.  As always food and monetary donations are desperately needed. Just put your donations in the truck before any Mass that weekend. 
Please give generously!

Archdiocese of Kingston - Annual Liturgical Conference “The Power of the Word” Friday Evening & Saturday, November 14-15.  Facilitator : Rev. John Hibbard.  Please contact the office if you are interested in attending.  613-546-0418.    

Thank you to all who continue to bring food items every weekend for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  They report that our food is not on the shelf very long.  Poor families are truly in need.  Thank you for helping them.

Catholic Women’s League Regional Meeting
Topic: The Year of St. Paul Facilitator: Father Shawn Hughes, Archdiocesan Spiritual Director

Program will begin with Benediction at 1:30 pm and will conclude by approximately 3:30 pm with refreshments.

Jamaica Evening at Holy Cross : Holy Cross C.S.S. invites you to an evening of Jamaican music, dance and drama featuring the St. Patrick’s Foundation All Stars Performing Arts Band from Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday, October 21st at 7 pm. OAPCE Regional Forum : ”United in Faith We are Stronger”.  Saturday, October 25,
1 pm to 3:30 pm at RND Catholic High School. Guest Speaker - Sister Clare Fitzgerald SSND,PHD, Internationally known for her insights into the value of Catholic Education. Entertainment - RND School Band and the Holy Cross School Choir. Sister Claire is an incredibly dynamic speaker - don’t miss this opportunity!

Kingston Choir Festival : The local centre of the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) is pleased to announce the 2008 Kingston Choir Festival to take place Saturday, October 25, at 7:30 pm at St, George’s Cathedral. Entry is by a freewill offering for the RCCO Scholarship Fund. This interdenominational gathering will feature church choirs from Kingston, Perth, Verona, Belleville and Picton and will include works by Malcolm Archer, Eleanor Daley, Paul Leddington Wright, Robert Lau and Joseph Running.  For more info call Jennifer Roche or Norman Brown at 613-542-6589.

HOLY HOUR FOR OUR DEPLOYED TROOPS
Come join us at Holy Family Chapel, CFB Kingston for an hour of prayer for our deployed troops in the EucharisticPresence of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  There will be exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament with prayers for our deployed men and women in uniform on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 beginning at 11:30 am and concluding at 12:30 pm with the celebration of the Eucharist.   For more info please contact Fr. “Beyond the Food Bank” - a social justice workshop on November 8th at Holy Cross School - a workshop which will challenge you to look at poor and hungry people not as issues or problems but as our brothers and sisters.  Together with the highly qualified leaders in the field, we will try to uncover longer term solutions which can serve to restore the human dignity of the poor and hungry in our midst.  Contact Alice Gazely at 613-544-0485 or rgazely@cogeco.ca.

Youth Ministry Course on Fostering the Faith Growth of Youth through Pastoral Care : will be offered on Fri. And Sat. Nov. 14th & 15th from 9 am to 5 pm at the Diocesan Centre. Topics that will be covered are:  Principles of Pastoral Care, Family Systems and Strengths, Adolescent Issues and Life Skills Training etc.  The cost of the course is $100 which covers meals and books.  Cheques made payable to Archdiocese of Kingston.  Registration is limited to 40.  To reserve a place call Gorett at 613-548-4461 or email her at ore@romancatholic.kingston.on.ca.

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Ontario Council - would like to establish one or more parish based chapters in Kingston and invite you to consider joining us.  One of the main areas we believe needs our help is with prison inmates and their families.  You are invited to attend a meeting which will provide some basic background knowledge about the society & our mission and goals for helping those in need.

JOKE
I accidentally rear -ended a car while driving our funeral home van.
The couple was unhurt, but the driver seemed shaken.
When we exchanged information, I remarked that her name sounded familiar.
“That’s because we made our funeral arrangements with you six months ago,” she said,
“but we never thought you’d come looking for us!”
