26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
All human beings have to struggle against the powers of sin but repentance will bring the ultimate reward.
It is easy to say we love God,
but if we don’t put our words into actions
(like the son who eventually did what his father asked)
then our words are empty.
Jesus said “Not everyone who says to me,
Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven”.

October is the Month of the Rosary

Convocation of priests is September 29th to October 1st so there will be no daily Masses on these dates.
Please pray for our priests during this time of study and reflection.

__ Each year, during the last weekend of September, a special collection is held in most parishes across Canada to support the national and international pastoral work of the Bishops. Known as the Bishops’ Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada, this collection helps the Bishops fulfill their obligations as members of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB).

Founded 65 years ago and officially recognized by the Holy See in 1948, the CCCB is the assembly of all Canadian Eastern and Roman Catholic Bishops. Since October 2007, its President is Most Rev. V. James Weisgerber, Archbishop of Winnipeg. At the end of his two-year term, according to a principle of alternance, a French Sector Bishop will become President.

In addition to maintaining a close relationship with Pope Benedict XVI and the dicasteries of the Holy See, the CCCB works closely with other Episcopal Conferences throughout the world, and especially those on the American continent. Through the work of Commissions and committees, it deals with various questions that affect the whole of the Catholic Church and Canadian society. The Bishops of Canada thank you for your generosity.

JUSTICE AND PEACE CORNER :   Global Poverty
We must ask our political candidates what they and their parties are doing to increase national efforts to meet basic human needs around the world.  Are they willing to increase our foreign aid to 0.7 % of GDP - one of many ways governments can achieve the Millennium Development Goals, adopted by 189 nations in 2000, including Canada, to cut in half the number of people living in extreme poverty by the year 2015. Lets urge our political candidates to help us ‘Make Poverty History’.

Joke
My four-year-old daughter, an animal lover, had been told how the fur on some animals changes colour with the season.
One day as her dad was bending over to tie her shoe,
she observed his head of graying hair and exclaimed excitedly,
“Dad, are you getting ready for winter?”
