12th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“What we hear in the dark, we are to tell in the light.”
Hearing the Gospel message carries a responsibility.
We must speak the “truth” to a, sometimes deaf and unbelieving world.
Often we can be worried about the reactions we might receive but Jesus says “Have no fear”.
As disciples we stand with Jesus and entrust ourselves to His protection and God’s loving embrace.

OPEN HOUSE FOR FATHER SHEA

Letter from St. Vincent de Paul Society

Dear Friends at Holy Name Parish,

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Kingston would like to thank you for your extremely thoughtful and generous donation. We would also like to express our appreciation for your on-going efforts to stretch the groceries in our emergency food pantry as we are seeing overwhelming numbers of people needing help.

We may be smaller or less well known than some in Kingston but it is obvious that we are needed by the people in our community.  We operate on an extremely limited budget.  With financial support from people such as you, our organization can continue to provide its vital services at no cost to those who need them.

In the first five months of 2008 we served 7432 hot meals and met 2445 emergency grocery requests through our food pantry.  Hundreds of people accessed clothing and other necessary items from our warehouse while others benefited from help with their utilities bill, rent, transportation, medical needs - even diapers or work boots or moving costs (almost $15,000).  We are a volunteer driven organization and in just 5 months volunteers gave 4775 hours of their valuable time and energy!

We depend on caring people like you because so many deserving people depend on us!  Thank you again for your generous support and have no doubt you are making a positive difference in your community.

With deep appreciation,
Deb Greer
Administrator

Joke
My young grandson called the other day to wish me a Happy Birthday.
He asked me how old I was, and I told him, “62".
He was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, “Did you start at 1?”
