First Sunday in Advent- December 3, 2006
Let us prepare this Advent for the celebration of Jesus’s birthday as well as for the time when Jesus will come again.  Our hearts must be free of earthly attachments so that we can be His instruments of love. We will try do this by being patient, accepting others view points, caring, showing acts of kindness and forgiving others.

Starting this week you are asked to try to bring food items each week when you come to Mass.  The St. Vincent de Paul Society is in constant need for food to give to poor families.  Help us to feed the hungry.

The Partners in Mission Food Bank would like to thank you for your generous donation of 34 bags of food collected during the months of July, August and September.

Bible Study - Tuesday Dec. 5, 7:30 pm in St. Joseph’s room. Chapter 12 & 13

You are invited to the CWL’s Wine and Cheese Social on December 6th in St. Joseph’s Room.  Mass will be celebrated at 6:45 pm and the social will follow at 7:30 pm. Non-Perishable food items will be collected for the needy. 

This week parishioner, Deborah Lefebvre, returns to Uganda to work in a medical clinic and to further the “Buy-A-Net” program.  Distribution of mosquito nets to families helps them avoid malaria.  Some celebrities have followed the lead of “Buy-A-Net” by starting “Spread the Net”.  “Buy-A-Net” is our preferred way to help.

Once again the parish has ice time during the Christmas holiday.  It will be the big ice at Cataraqui Arena (Kinsmen Ice Pad) on Thursday. Dec. 28th.

At last months’s Communion Breakfast you met parishioners who are helping people in Africa. Karen Yeats and her husband, Roman, have just returned from Tanzania.  They will return there in February.   Karen will be the guest speaker at the Communion Breakfast on January 21st at Rideau Acres.

Attention Seniors!  The Entertainment to Seniors Committee of the St. Joseph’s Pastoral Council invites you to a Christmas Tea on Thursday, December 7th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 392 Palace Road, in the Parish Hall.  Come and enjoy a friendly conversation, entertainment and refreshments.  A free-will offering would be appreciated.

Because of Christmas falling this year on a Monday, Advent is only three weeks long.  Let us begin our preparation for Christmas by gathering on Friday, December 8th at 7:30p.m.to celebrate the feast of The Immaculate Conception of Our Lady.  The annual celebration of our diocesan feast day will take place at St. Mary’s Cathedral.  Let us come together to pray for our own needs, the needs of the diocese and for those of the entire world.

Prayer for Vocations
O God, who has chosen the Apostles to propagate the faith & to establish Your Holy Church, throughout the world, we earnestly beseech You to choose from amongst our people many priests deacons, religious brothers & sisters and lay persons who will gladly devote their entire lives in making you known & loved by all.  Through the intercession of our Blessed Lady, we ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen
