Holy Name Parish Events - October is Mission Month

28th Sunday In Ordinary Time - October 9th, 2005

Serving one another, feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, welcoming strangers, clothing the naked, caring for the sick, and visiting prisoners.  This is what it takes to enter the kingdom of God.  It is not our outward appearance, but our actions that will be judged when the reign of God is realized.  Are you prepared for God’s heavenly banquet?

THANK YOU! Your generosity has been greatly appreciated! A grand total of $5,750 has been raised by our parish community over the past three weeks for the Canadian Children’s Hunger Fund! (Uganda Mission).

THANK YOU to those who donated items for the CWL’s silent auction held Wednesday, October 5.  And a big thank you to those ladies who came out to bid.  It was a fantastic time with a large turn out.  $322 was raised for Birthright.

This Tuesday’s Knowing God Better: Discussion will be on “Knowing God’s Help”.

Next weekend you can still donate to the Hurricane Victims Collection by putting your envelope marked “Hurricanes” in the collection.  Thanks.

Thanksgiving Monday - Sign-up (sheet at back of the church) to represent our parish at the “Diocesan Day of Prayer For Vocations” at St. Mary’s Cathedral.  Come and pray for one hour, 8am - 8pm.  Special holy hour @ 7:30pm with Monsgr. Raby.

Saturday OCT 22 - YOUTH GROUP MEETING! 7:00 - 9:00pm, St. Joseph’s Room.

Sunday OCT 23 - Everybody is invited to attend a Communion Breakfast @ Rideau Acres Hall, 12 noon.  Guest speakers are our parish WORLD YOUTH DAY pilgrims!  Full, delicious breakfast. $10/person or $30/family.  Tickets for sale after mass today!

Sat OCT 29/ Sun OCT 30 - Saint Vincent de Paul Society Autumn Drive!  Once again you are being asked to help the poor of our own community.  When you come to mass on these dates please bring a donation of clothing, blankets, bedding, winter gloves, boots, hats, etc.  Gently used items only  please.

Winter is coming!  An easy and great way to teach your children about Christian ministry is to have them choose a non-perishable food item from your cupboard or at the store, and let them “deliver” it to the back of the church weekly.  Help families keep warm and fed.  Parish volunteers deliver food donations weekly.

Vocation View
If faith can move mountains, it can remove hardness of heart.
Faith does move mountains, so faith does remove hardness of heart.

Prayer For Vocations

O God, who has chosen the Apostles to propagate the faith & to establish Your Holy Church throughout the world, we earnestly beseech You to choose from amongst our people many priests, deacons, religious brothers & sisters and lay persons who will gladly devote their entire lives in making YOU known & loved by all. Through the intercession of Our Blessed Lady, we ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
