For Catholics receiving Holy Communion is the most special spiritual experience we can have until we arrive in heaven.  In Holy Communion we receive Jesus.  We believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the consecrated host and precious blood that we receive at Communion during Mass.  This is Jesus’ gift to us at the Last Supper when he blessed the bread and wine saying “This is my Body....This is my Blood.”  He gives Himself to us.  No wonder Holy Communion is so precious to Catholics!
Non-Catholic Christians use bread and wine in their communion service as a mere
re-enactment of the Last Supper-They do not have nor do they believe that Jesus is actually present.
All eligible Catholics are encouraged to receive Communion at Mass. To be eligible, a Catholic must have made his/her First Communion, must be in the state of grace which means be free of mortal sin, and have fasted for at least one hour.  The fasting is to show that you hunger for God.  The fasting requirement is that one has not consumed any food or drink, except water, during the hour prior to receiving Holy Communion. Chewing gum and sucking on candies violates the fasting requirements.  Please put new appreciation into your own experience of receiving Holy Communion.  Take advantage of Jesus’ gift of Himself to you.  Let God feed you and strengthen you with holiness.
