With the death of John Paul II, the Roman Catholic Church has lost a Pope of extraordinary achievement, and the world has lost one of the most influential leaders of our time.

In order to celebrate his remarkable life, an Interfaith Service of Remembrance is planned for 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, 5 April 2005, at St. Mary's Cathedral.

Leaders in various Christian and non-Christian faiths have graciously agreed to participate in this vigil of prayer, and all the faithful of the Archdiocese are warmly invited to this Service of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

In addition, a Mass in memory of Pope John Paul II will be offered at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, 7 April 2005, at St. Mary's Cathedral.

May God grant John Paul II eternal peace.

Most Rev. Anthony G. Meagher
Archbishop of Kingston

2nd SUNDAY of EASTER
April 3, 2005

If Thomas was to believe the stories about a resurrection of some kind, he wanted proof.  Seeing & touching those wounds, he thought, would convince him.  It is interesting, then, that the gospel text does not describe Thomas actually putting his fingers into the wounds of Jesus.  Instead, he hears the voice of the Lord and, having been called by the One whose invitation beckons us all, he responds with that profound profession of faith,  “My Lord and my God!”  The desire for tangible proof is gone, replaced by a much more certain and unshakeable assurance of faith.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

O God, who has chosen the Apostles to propagate the faith & to establish Your Holy Church throughout the world, we earnestly beseech You to choose from amongst our people many priests, deacons, religious brothers & sisters and lay persons who will gladly devote their entire lives in making YOU known & loved by all.   Through the intercession of Our Blessed Lady, we ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
