5th   SUNDAY OF LENT

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ LENT-we are asked to take up the challenges of meaningful penance as expressed in FAST & ABSTINENCE.  DAYS OF FAST & ABSTINENCE in Canada are ASH WEDNESDAY & GOOD FRIDAY. ABSTINENCE (after 14) means not to eat meat or some other favourite food & a practice of moderation in all food & drink on all FRIDAYS of the year, but Catholics can substitute special acts of charity or piety on these days.  FASTING (after 18 & up to 59) can vary from person to person - some a total fast, taking only bread & water;  others adopt a vegetarian diet on a day of fast;  others still take only one complete meal.  Lent is a time of repentance - a time for more prayer - a time of discipline & sacrifice  a time to be generous & caring to the poor.   Remember that every Friday in Lent- Stations of the Cross at 6 & Mass at 6:30 pm ee the bulletin for changes. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

STATUE OF MARY
                  The week of March 13th prayers will be offered at Mae’s Place.
                  The week of March 20th prayers will be offered in the Richardson/Snider home.
NOTE:   Please leave the statue in the entrance after the Mass you attend for the next family to take home.
Please sign up to have the Statue and Family Prayers in your home.

OUR PARISH WELLNESS MINISTRY includes monthly Masses at the Nursing Homes & taking Holy Communion to our homebound parishioners.  For a Pastoral visit, call the  parish office - 546-0418.

REMEMBER OUR PARISH SUPPORTS “PARTNERS IN MISSION” (Food Bank) each week because the need is so great for many families.  Bring a non-perishable item to Mass next week for the Food Bank.  Volunteers deliver our Parish food donations weekly.

YOUTH GROUP MEETINGS have been cancelled until repairs are made to Monsignor Raby House.

PARISH CALENDAR:

     Bible Study has been cancelled due to construction in Msgr Raby House being incomplete.

LADIES’ NIGHT is Saturday APRIL 9th.  This is a very special evening for the ladies of the Parish and their friends to be treated royally by the men of the Parish.  It is always a lot of fun.  Tickets will be sold after the Masses on April 2n d & 3rd or you can reserve a table for your group by calling 546-0418. $10 per lady.  Door prizes too.

HOLY NAME C.W.L - Mother/Daughter Pot Luck Supper will take place at Holy Name School on Wednesday May 4th  6 pm - St Barnaby’s & C.F.B.  C.W.L. Councils  will be invited as well - a representative from the Hearing Society, Patricia Arney, will be our guest speaker.

OUR PARISH HAS FIVE YOUNG PEOPLE  going to  World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany this summer.  As their parish we will be helping them raise funds for this important experience.  More information later.

BIRTHRIGHT - international pregnancy service offering free, confidential assistance to pregnant women of any age.  They believe “It is the right of every pregnant woman to give birth & the right of every child to be born” - 10 volunteers needed so that the Kingston office can remain open.  Call

ARCHBISHOP MEAGHER INVITES ALL YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS to celebrate Palm Sunday with him at St Mary’s Cathedral on Sunday MAR 20th at 7:30 pm.  This will mark the 20th Anniversary of the 1st World Youth Day in Rome.  The Archbishop will speak briefly in preparation of the Liturgy & will be the main celebrant for the Mass.  An informal reception will follow.

O God, who has chosen the Apostles to propagate the faith & to establish Your Holy Church throughout the world, we earnestly beseech You to choose from amongst our people many priests, deacons, religious brothers & sisters and lay persons who will gladly devote their entire lives in making YOU known & loved by all.   Through the intercession of Our Blessed Lady, we ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
