LENT-we are asked to take up the challenges of meaningful penance as expressed in FAST & ABSTINENCE.  DAYS OF FAST & ABSTINENCE in Canada are ASH WEDNESDAY & GOOD FRIDAY. ABSTINENCE (after 14) means not to eat meat or some other favourite food & a practice of moderation in all food & drink on all FRIDAYS of the year, but Catholics can substitute special acts of charity or piety on these days.  FASTING (after 18 & up to 59) can vary from person to person - some a total fast, taking only bread & water;  others adopt a vegetarian diet on a day of fast;  others still take only one complete meal.  Lent is a time of repentance - a time for more prayer - a time of discipline & sacrifice  a time to be generous & caring to the poor.   Remember that every Friday in Lent- Stations of the Cross at 6 & Mass at 6:30 pm ee the bulletin for changes.
