2nd  SUNDAY OF LENT
February 20th  2005
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
LENT has begun - we are asked to take up the challenges of meaningful penance as expressed in  FAST & ABSTINENCE.  ABSTINENCE (after 14) means not to eat meat or some other favourite food & a
practice of moderation in all food & drink on all FRIDAYS of the year.  FASTING (after 18 & up to 59) can vary from person to person - some a total fast, taking only bread & water; others adopt a vegetarian diet on a day of fast; others still take only one complete meal.  Lent is a time of repentance - a time for more prayer - a time of discipline and sacrifice  - a time to be generous and caring to the poor.   Remember that every Friday in LentStations of the Cross at 6 & Mass at 6:30 pm  - see the bulletin for changes.

O God, who has chosen the Apostles to propagate the faith & to establish Your Holy Church throughout the world, we earnestly beseech You to choose from amongst our people many priests, deacons, religious brothers & sisters and lay persons who will gladly devote their entire lives in making YOU known & loved by all.   Through the intercession of Our Blessed Lady, we ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
