2nd  SUNDAY OF LENT
February 20th  2005
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ LENT has begun - we are asked to take up the challenges of meaningful penance as expressed in  FAST & ABSTINENCE.  ABSTINENCE (after 14) means not to eat meat or some other favourite food & a
practice of moderation in all food & drink on all FRIDAYS of the year.  FASTING (after 18 & up to 59) can vary from person to person - some a total fast, taking only bread & water; others adopt a vegetarian diet on a day of fast; others still take only one complete meal.  Lent is a time of repentance - a time for more prayer - a time of discipline and sacrifice  - a time to be generous and caring to the poor.   Remember that every Friday in Lent -  Stations of the Cross at 6 & Mass at 6:30 pm  - see the bulletin for changes. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

WELCOME TO FATHER FRANK REITZEL , OUR SPECIAL GUEST PREACHER FOR OUR PARISH MISSION  - Father Reitzel was born & raised in Waterloo, studied at St Peter’s Seminary & was ordained to the priesthood June 11, 1949.  He taught high school English for many years and served as novice Master for his religious Community.  After completing graduate studies, he taught English & Religious Studies at the University of Calgary & the University of Western Ontario.  He then served as Pastor in Kitchener and Bermuda.  After retiring from full-time active ministry in 2001, he embarked on his present apostate of conducting Retreats & Parish Mission.

NOTE:   Please leave the statue in the entrance after the Mass you attend for the next family to take home.
Please sign up to have the Statue and Family Prayers in your home.
 
OUR PARISH WELLNESS MINISTRY includes monthly Masses at the Nursing Homes & taking Holy Communion to our homebound parishioners.  For a Pastoral visit, call the  parish office - 546-0418.

REMEMBER OUR PARISH SUPPORTS “PARTNERS IN MISSION” (Food Bank) each week because the need is so great for many families.  Bring a non-perishable item to Mass next week for the Food Bank.  Volunteers deliver our Parish food donations weekly.
 
YOUTH GROUP MEETINGS have been cancelled until repairs are made to Monsignor Raby House.
 
SPECIAL SPIRITUAL EVENINGS FOR THE WHOLE PARISH:   we are having a Parish Mission in February.  It starts with the weekend Masses on FEB 19th & 20th & continues with a special service each evening at 7 pm - Sunday, Monday & Tuesday.

ANNUAL LITURGICAL CONFERENCE - YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST - MARCH 4-5,2005 -Fri.7 to 9:30 pm & Sat. 9 am to 3 pm -Registration (including lunch & social) $30. PARENTS  - Do you ask: Why does my child lack confidence?  How can I help my child to make good choices? COME & SEE an evening of input & sharing into what children really need as well as encouragement for you as parents- Thurs, FEB 22nd 7 to 9 pm.  Cost $20.  Workshop offered by Sr Myrna Aylward, licensed Personal Growth Educator.  For info 548-8882 or maylward@sympatico.ca

HOLY NAME C.W.L.  - if you have not paid your dues - please do so - $15. in an envelope marked C.W.L., your name & slip it in the offertory basket.  Lenten Retreat on Saturday MAR 12th - Sister Myrna Aylward will facilitate - it will focus on our world and our obligation to look after it and each other - all ladies of the parish are invited to come - it will begin with Mass at 9:30 am  - lunch will be provided. Sign-up sheet in a couple of weeks.  We hope to have a Parenting Seminar at St Martha School - a date & details to be decided.  Mother/Daughter Pot Luck Supper will take place at Holy Name School on Wednesday May 4th - St Barnaby’s C.W.L. will be invited as well - a representative from the Hearing Society, Patricia Arney, will be our guest speaker.

OUR PARISH HAS FIVE YOUNG PEOPLE going to World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany this summer.  As their parish we will be helping them to raise funds for this important experience.  More information later.

BIRTHRIGHT - international pregnancy service offering free, confidential assistance to pregnant women of any age who believes “It is the right of every pregnant woman to give birth & the right of every child to be born” - 10 volunteers needed so that the Kingston office can remain open.

mountain.  But Jesus said, “Move”, with the knowledge that ships are safe in harbors,
but not meant to stay in harbors.

O God, who has chosen the Apostles to propagate the faith & to establish Your Holy Church throughout the world, we earnestly beseech You to choose from amongst our people many priests, deacons, religious brothers & sisters and lay persons who will gladly devote their entire lives in making YOU known & loved by all.   Through the intercession of Our Blessed Lady, we ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
