BAPTISM OF OUR LORD
January    9, 2005
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
At His baptism, Jesus is revealed as Beloved Son, Chosen Servant, Messiah and King.  At the same time, he stands in solidarity with each of us without partiality.  Surely, gratitude for such a saving gift, promised from of old, can spur us on to be a faithful and willing covenant People.

THE SUPREME COURT  issued a decision in reference to marriage.  The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops published a statement:   “The Catholic Church will continue to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage as the union of a man and a woman.....affirming that marriage is a loving, life-giving partnership between a man and a woman.  Its purpose is the good of the couple and the procreation and education of children - and thus necessary for the survival of society.  As the committed and stable relationship of a man and a woman, marriage is basic for the stability of society and family life.  In so far as it is a social institution, marriage is concerned with the common good, not individual rights.....As pastoral leaders of the Catholic community in Canada, we intend to be part of the debate (regarding future legislation).  We encourage all Canadians to participate in the forthcoming debate in any way that they can and to make their views known to their representatives in the Hose of Commons and Senate.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

O God, who has chosen the Apostles to propagate the faith & to establish Your Holy Church throughout the world, we earnestly beseech You to choose from amongst our people many priests, deacons, religious brothers & sisters and lay persons who will gladly devote their entire lives in making YOU known & loved by all.   Through the intercession of Our Blessed Lady, we ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen.

HAIRY PROBLEM:   a minister known for being long-winded noticed that one of his parishioners left during the sermon and later returned.  At the conclusion of the service, the perplexed pastor asked the man for an explanation. “I went for a haircut,” the parishioner answered.  “Why didn’t you get a haircut before you came?” questioned the minister.  “Because I didn’t need one then.”
