The Wise Men are a standard feature of our Christmas traditions.  The only reference to them is in the gospel of
Mathews, but no details are given. They were learned and intelligent men & judging from the gifts - very wealthy. They were guided by a star to a scene of poverty & simplicity - were not disappointed but overjoyed at the site of the child.  We are like the Wise Men - feeling the pull of the star,  called to journey to God on a road full of difficulties & deceitful voices of the Herods in our midst.  Matthew’s seekers, travelling together in search of truth, are models for our own journey of faith.

THE SUPREME COURT  issued a decision in reference to marriage.  The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops published a statement:   “The Catholic Church will continue to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage as the union of a man and a woman.....affirming that marriage is a loving, life-giving partnership between a man and a woman.  Its purpose is the good of the couple and the procreation and education of children - and thus necessary for the survival of society.  As the committed and stable relationship of a man and a woman, marriage is basic for the stability of society and family life.  In so far as it is a social institution, marriage is concerned with the common good, not individual rights.....As pastoral leaders of the Catholic community in Canada, we intend to be part of the debate (regarding future legislation).  We encourage all Canadians to participate in the forthcoming debate in any way that they can and to make their views known to their representatives in the Hose of Commons and Senate.

GOSPEL OF MARK  -introduction to the New Testament will be offered at St Paul University, Ottawa & through video conferencing in the Kingston area on Tuesdays, JAN 11th to APR 5th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.   It will cover the New Testament History of the Formation of the Gospels.

VOCATION VIEW:   Many adults never grow up.  They continue to traipse across the
earth looking for a shining star.  Tell them who lights up your life, O Christian.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

O God, who has chosen the Apostles to propagate the faith & to establish Your Holy Church throughout the world, we earnestly beseech You to choose from amongst our people many priests, deacons, religious brothers & sisters and lay persons who will gladly devote their entire lives in making YOU known & loved by all.   Through the intercession of Our Blessed Lady, we ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen.

JOKE:       “I had been teaching my three-year old daughter, Caitlin, the Lord’s Prayer for
several evenings at bedtime, she would repeat after me the lines from the
prayer.   Finally, she decided to go solo.  I listened with pride as she carefully
enunciated each word right up to the end of the prayer:   “Lead us not into
temptation,” she prayed, “but deliver us some E-mail.
