1st Sunday in Lent
Like Jesus in the wilderness,
we are being led by the spirit into a forty day period of prayer and fasting to help us reflect on the direction our lives are taking.
Lent is a time of quiet and purposeful reflection which helps us to discover the will of God
and when we undergo our own desert experiences,
we can draw hope and strength from the example of Jesus
and from His presence with us in every moment of our lives.

Sale of Art from the Holy Land: The main income for the Christian community of Bethlehem – The Birth Place of Jesus- is selling their hand crafted olive wood religious items to the pilgrims who visit the area. The past few years have been extremely hard for the community as a result of declining tourism. Some Christians responded by fleeing the Holy Land, and the absence of a living Christian community is very dangerous for the Holy Sites such as the Church of the Nativity.  On March 6th & 7th we will be having some of their beautiful art held for sale in an effort to strengthen the Christian presence in the Holy Land. This sale will take place in the Church and School entryways after Masses on March 6th & 7th.  The Archdiocese of Kingston supports this initiative.

A Message from Archbishop O’Brien
The parishioners of the Archdiocese of Kingston have responded quickly and generously to the emergency appeal for assistance to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. As of the 12th of February, over $271,000 was raised in the parishes of the Archdiocese. Since the Federal Government has promised to match dollar for dollar donations made by that date, your support has generated over $542,000 in relief funding.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my personal gratitude for your outstanding generosity. The people of Haiti will benefit greatly from your kindness and support as they work to rebuild their country and their lives.

May God bless you all.                       Brendan M. O’Brien

Joke
John’s dad picked him up from school to take him to a dental appointment.
Knowing the parts for the school play were supposed to be posted today, he asked his son if he got a part.
John enthusiastically announced that he’d gotten a part.
“I play a man who’s been married for twenty Years.”
That’s great son.
Keep up the good work and before you know it they’ll be giving you a speaking part.”
