Increasingly, we live in an age in which trust has become a scarce commodity.
We all have a little bit of the Apostle, Thomas in us.
Many, when they think of faith, see it as something that is cut and dried; we believe or we do not believe.
Actually, for most, it is something that must be renewed several times in life.
Questioning is an important part of spiritual growth and challenges result in strengthened acceptance.
When Thomas touched the wounds of Jesus, love flowed out and only then did Thomas fully believe
“My Lord and my God!”

ALL LADIES are invited to a Social evening /Silent Auction / and 50/50 draw to raise funds for “Buy-A-Net” &” The Fight Against Aids in Africa”. This will take place on Wed., April 2 at 7:00pm in St. Joseph’s Room of Msgr Raby House. There are lovely items up for auction, including watches and hand made baskets from Africa, etc. Please come and enjoy a nice evening & support two great charities.

Ping Pong Recently, the Parish asked about interest regarding establishing a regular night during the week for Parish Table Tennis (Ping Pong). So far the response was limited, so it has been decided to wait until the autumn to try again.

Lay Faith Development Committee Holy Name is looking for a representative to serve on the Lay Faith Development Committee which meets once every two months at the Diocesan Centre. The representative acts as a link between our Parish and the Archdiocese, and other parishes within it. Meetings typically consist of an information component about upcoming events like World Youth Day and the Eucharistic Congress, and a round table sharing of the various faith-based activities each parish is currently offering. Parish Blood Donor Clinic sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, May 6, 2008: 9:00 - 12:00 am & 1:00 -7:00pm. Please sign up at the back of the church and help Holy Name Parish give the gift of life.

Military Families Invitations are being sent to Parish military families with loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan. There will be a very special evening on Saturday, May 3rd. Mass and special prayers will begin at 5:30 pm and will be followed by a delicious dinner. Sponsored by the Catholic Women’s League and The Knights of Columbus. If you don’t get your invitation by April 11th please call the Parish office.

Thank you to all who continue to bring food items every weekend for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. They report that our food is not on the shelf very long. Poor families are truly in need. Thank you for helping them. (Matthew 25:35" I was hungry and you fed me”.)

New Life Group Meeting a Catholic Ministry for the Separated and Divorced will have a meeting Tuesday, April 1st from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the Diocesan Centre. The topic will be “Our Response to Difficult People” video and discussion. All faith denominations welcome.

Fostering the Faith Growth of Youth through Justice and Service course will be offered on Friday, April 11th at the Diocesan Centre and Saturday, April 12th at the Sisters of Providence Motherhouse - Kingston. The course will explore the theological and scriptural foundations for engaging young people in the work of justice and service. The facilitator will be Andrew Bartley from London. Social justice workshop for parishioners “Strangers No Longer” -This will be a fascinating event on Saturday, April 26th at the Sisters of Providence Motherhouse in Kingston. Diocesan Retreat for Separated and/ or Divorced at Providence Spirituality Centre, Friday evening, May 2 and Saturday, May 3, 2008. The retreat, “Searching for Serenity”, facilitated by Fr. Mac Burke will be a time of reflection, rest and spiritual nourishment. Please register by April 11, 2008. JOKE

While shopping in a food store, two nuns happened to pass by the beer, wine, and liquor section.
One asked the other if she would like a beer.
The second nun answered that, indeed, it would be very nice to have one, but that she would feel uncomfortable about purchasing it.
The first nun replied that she would handle that without a problem.
She picked up a six-pack and took it to the cashier.
The cashier had a surprised look, so the nun said, 'This is for washing our hair.'
Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter and put a package of pretzel sticks in the bag with the beer.
'The curlers are on me.'

For my “Farewell Party” (Nov. 4), I am deeply grateful to so many people: Father Tim Shea who convinced me that I just could not “go quietly” and for his generous spirit, his gifts and even his humour; Christine Mears for so many reasons; my Sisters in the Catholic Women’s League - Shirley Levac, Hanna Lahaie, Jean Richards, Cecile Gould, Cathy Townsend, Teresa Bouvier, Claudette Richardson, Roseanne Hogan, Madeline Halladay who have always supported me and my deepest gratitude for one heck of a party- the room was a beautiful painting; Marguerite Laudanski for the gorgeous cake; the Halladay girls, Jessie and Jodie for their always heavenly music; Bob Bouvier for his help; for all those who prepared the delicious feast; the Knights of Columbus Pat Stenson & Gary Richards for their kind words; Roy Gould for the lovely photo album; the spiritual bouquet; for the priests who came, I know how busy they are and it meant a lot to me; to the Parishioners of Holy Name of Jesus - thank you for your love the past 22 years; thank you to my friends and family for their support. Thank you to Phil Henderson and Des Hensman for their gracious presentation of the gift from the Knights and their humbling words. Thank you everyone for cards, gifts and most of all for your love and prayers. I will treasure your friendship and November 4th for the rest of my life.
